When I was younger I loved going to the beach. I was a Nipper with the Surf Lifesaving Club at Yamba when I was 11. When I moved back to Australia, I spent a lot of time at the beach, and even had a surf ski which I used to take down and paddle around. Now, we live 10 minutes away from some of the best beaches in Australia and yet we hardly ever go to them! Crazy huh? I think it's because I've realised the dangers and unpredictability of the sea. Also, I guess, its because I hate being hot and in the sun. Give me a pool with a shady spot anyday - no sand, no trudging down with arms filled with boogie boards and towels, and no hot, sandy bodies in the car on the way home. My
children love the beach though, and I have to be careful to
let them experience the joys of the surf as I did when I was
younger. Lucky they have a Dad who enjoys the occasional
dip too!
