It started out with the results of Lauren's hearing test. Turns out the she has a mild - moderate conductive hearing loss in one ear. How about that!! I'm actually really happy with the diagnosis - I've been fighting her school for the past two years as they were trying to tell me she was ASD. Now my older son has Aspergers Syndrome (which I had to fight to get a diagnosis for!!) - and I knew that this was not Lauren's problem. It explains so much, and now that we know, I have seen so many things that she misses when people talk to her. I have managed to contact the Advisory Visiting Teacher for Hearing Impairment to visit the school to make sure that she gets the best chance in the classroom. Mothers always know best!! We still have Paediatrician visits and have to work out how we'll manage it, but it's a start!
Next thing is that we lost 2 Australian icons during the week. Steve Irwin -the Crocodile Hunter and Peter Brock - a racing car driver. We lived opposite Australia Zoo for a while, and visited there earlier this year. I didn't realise how much DH had wanted to meet him until this happened. I'm not a racing car fan but grew up hearing the name Peter Brock. I actually went for a ride in a car with him around a circuit at over 200km/h.
On the work front,we had some really unsettling news. Our Regional Manager was made redundant without any warning which threw everyone into chaos and uncertainty. A lot of restructuring going on, people are unsure of their job security, and emotions are running high. Nothing like going to work each day wondering what will happen next!
To top off an interesting week - we had a snake in our backyard yesterday! Just one of those really deadly brown snakes. Lauren was playing on the swing when she noticed her kitten playing with something. She went over the investigate, and luckily Gary spotted what was going on and went over too. The cat was playing with it like it was a mouse - pouncing on it, then letting it go so she could pounce some more. Lauren is absolutely terrified of snakes (even pictures of snakes) - so she was in the house in hysterics, with the cat and her brothers while we dealt with it. The dogs(border collies) were trying to round it up - as they do - so we locked them under the house. Gary was hesitant about what to do with it - but we had to dispose of it quickly - or Lauren would never venture into the yard again. Thank goodness the cat is OK, the snake is gone and after a lot of coaching Lauren wen to out to play again.
It's Monday morning now - wonder what this week will bring?
